I have a small vineyard at Hall in the A.C.T. and have been using the Calclear Water Conditioners since March 1998. We were desperately short of water when we planted our seedlings and it was necessary to use bore water. The flow was 2,000 litres per hour with high dissolved salts (over 2,000 ppm) We fitted the Calclear Water Conditioner and were very pleased with the growth rate and quality of our seedlings. Our knowledge of irrigation was limited at that stage but when the consultant came from Irritrol (then James Hardie) his first comment was that our drippers were clean with no deposits of Calcium scale. At the end of the growing season there was no need to flush the irrigation lines. As a result of our confidence with the quality of the use of the water and the effect on the pump I am able to plant two more hectares.

CALCLEAR system is effective on most minerals contained in our water supplies and recent research has confirmed that it is the mineral crystals or combinations of them that cause much of the scaling and corrosion problems and many of the growing problems encountered in agriculture and horticulture.

It has now been proved beyond doubt that the transformation of large mineral crystals into tiny mineral particles has made them into a form that can be more easily be taken up by plants. (This is particularly true of calcium). It has further been shown that large mineral crystals can physically block the root systems and xylem, starving the plants of nutrients and preventing transpiration of calcium which is so essential to healthy growth particularly when plants are under conditions of stress.

It is now possible to minimise defects caused by calcium deficiency and transpiration problems such as tip burn, blossom end rot and bitter pith.

Tests by Suntec on hydroponic lettuce, using bore and rain water, greatly reduced the incidence of tip burn, bolting and the bitter taste components whilst increasing fresh weight and prolonging shelf life.

Even more significant was the fact that bore water crops produced bigger and better plants than did rain water.

This was because the bore water contained more minerals which were changed into a form that the plants could easily take up. It also emerged that salt is not so toxic to plant growth when there are no crystals present and we now have healthy commercial crops from high salinity bore water previously considered unsuitable for primary production.

There is no reason why these benefits cannot be realised throughout every branch of land use.

DAIRY FARMING:
CALCLEAR was initially used by the dairy industry to de-scale hot water services and milking apparatus. An added benefit was the removal of algae from the milking shed floor, (algae needs calcium crystals to form on and 4 micron particles are too small).

LIVESTOCK:
CALCLEAR is extensively used to treat bore water supplies many of which are used for drinking water by livestock. Not only are pipes tanks troughs and float valves de-scaled but the stock seem to prefer to drink the treated water.
